a well acknowledged name in the Malayalam film industry. A National and State award winner he carries several accolades as a film editor director, a brilliant combination in the industry, which he groomed from the studies of Drama and Films in two different and reputed art institutes.
He studied Theatre Arts at the bachelor level in School of Drama, Calicut University, Trichur and joined for Film studies at the post graduate level at Film & TV Institute of India (FTII), Pune that lead him to newer pastures of higher understanding and insights in self-expression and multi-faceted art practices. After graduating from FTII, he started working with eminent film editor late Ms. Renu Saluja in several Hindi film projects as her assistant. During this process of understanding of cinema, the most powerful and significant art form of modern age, his exploration has grown wider and deeper to achieve many fruits of appreciation such as National and State film awards leading to more exciting projects in advertising, corporate and feature films. His short film ‘Diary of a House Wife’, which has bagged the National award for first best non feature of a director, screened as the inaugural film at Indian Panaorama in 2002 along with master film maker late Mr. Mrinal Sen’s ‘Aamar Bhuvan’. He has won Kerala State Film Award for Best Editor in 2007 (Ore Kadal) and 2011 (Ivan Megharoopan).
He has chaired as NETPAC Jury member of All Light International Film festival held in Hyderabad in 2016, Jury Member of International Documentary & Short film festival of Kerala (IDSFFK) in 2016, Jury Chairman of Kerala State TV award for 2013, NETPAC Jury Chairman of All Light International Film festival of Kerala in 2015.
Vinod Sukumaran is also an academician with specialisation in Film Editing, associated with several institutes throughout in Kerala, which include, C-DIT- Thiruvananthapuram, Press Academy- Kochi, School of Communication, SH College – Thevara. He also conducts workshops for Chalachithra Academy. His directorial venture HARAM, a Malayalam feature, starring Fahad Fazil and Radhika Apte, released in 2015 scored notable comments and appreciation from many film critics.
